Rhode Island, officieel de staat Rhode Island en Providence Plantations, is een staat in de regio New England in het noordoosten van de Verenigde Staten.Het is qua oppervlakte het kleinste, het achtste minst bevolkte en het op een na dichtstbevolkte van de vijftig Amerikaanse staten.De officiële naam is ook de langste van alle staten in de Unie.Rhode Island wordt begrensd door Connecticut in het westen, Massachusetts in het noorden en oosten, en de Atlantische Oceaan in het zuiden via Rhode Island Sound en Block Island Sound.Het deelt ook een kleine maritieme grens met New York.
